Pearcing age ?
andrew
Hi.

Today I read from the newspaper that one celebrity woman of our country has pierced her babygirls ears at age of two weeks.

Altough I love watching adults with hoops I think two weeks are quite young for earrings.

What age have your babies been when you have pierced their ears and what age you have pierced yours ?

Hi, i agree, that is far too young. I think childrens ears should be pierced when they are ready and that it is their choice. I think hoops looks great on an adult or teenager but not on a child Cool

I'm very much against it. Recently had a big quarrel with my sister, she recently had a baby and took her to get her ears pierced at only a couple months old. She didn't see the problem with it. I personally see it as child abuse.

Whenever I get into this debate with someone I ask them if they'd take their child in to get a tattoo? They scoff and say "of course not" so then I ask them if they'd take their baby in to get their tongue or eyebrow pierced, and I get the same reaction. Then they turn around and say ears are fine but have no answer as to what makes it different.

I'm obviously not against piercings, but to me the child has to be old enough to ask for it. Forcing them into it is wrong. I actually dated a girl a few years back who was in her 20s and had never had hers pierced (by choice). So you can't just assume the girl will want them done.

I'm with you on that! As far as I'm concerned, anyone who's involved in getting a baby's ears pierced should be charged with child abuse... For me, the minimum age for getting ears pierced should be at least five, and I know that a few piercing places in the UK do have that kind of rule. Really, I think that if someone wants their ears pierced, they should actually wait until around their early teens because, by that time, their lobes should have stopped growing, and so there's no danger of the holes drifting off out of the perfect position.

And, like you, I've had a couple of girlfriends who'd never had their ears pierced, despite being in their 20s. Both were really beautiful and wonderful people, but neither had ever felt the need to get their ears pierced. And I had another one who did get her ears pierced, but then had to let them heal up again because it turned out she has a severe metal allergy and her lobes became horribly swollen. She tried getting them re-done with different metals, even titanium, but each time had to give up because of her allergy and eventually gave up on ever having them done.

It's a litle surprising how many people on this forum agree on this, given the number of people who do choose to pierce their infant's ears. I am also in total agreement. Despite having 8 piercings on my own ears, and having persuaded my wife to have hers pierced a few times as well, I would never consider not giving the child the choice.

I also do not think it is a good idea when the child can not speak on their own behalf. When the young girl asks to have her ears pierced, then that is the time. Not before.
